On June 22nd, 2023, the giveaturn.org team executed its second action. We organized a full day of activities for a hundred children with disabilities. Following the action from October 2022, the objective of the day was to work with kids from multiple specialized education institutes (Institut Médico Educatif) and their educators.
Once again, we partnered with the association Les Chiens de Traineau du Bois Richard (CTBR) and four Instituts Médico Educatifs from the Normandie region. In France, the Institut Médico Educatif is a social and medical institute that supports children and teenagers who suffer from mental disabilities.
As June marks the end of the school year and the start of summer, it is traditional for kids in Normandy to spend a day at the Bois Richard, in the city of Les Andelys. While each group came with their specialized educators, we decided to mix kids and form teams. This way, children were able to play with new friends outside their usual group.
One of the challenges - and richness - of this day was the wide range of kids participating and their various disabilities: trisomy (e.g., Down, Edward, and Patau syndromes), asperger syndrome, and other mental or physical issues.
Children came up with 7 team names: The Birds, the Green Oaks, the Tiger, the Wolves, the Thunders, the Magical Unicorns and the Squirrels.
The objective was to complete 6 challenges and win points. Each station was managed by one of our giveaturn.org members:
The day was a real success and the kids returned home with big smiles and many good memories. In fact, there might be a future Tiger Woods playing in the woods very soon. 😉⛳
And congratulations to the Tiger team, our winner for the day.
We would like to thank the CTBR association for their continued support as well as all the educators from the Instituts Medico Educatifs. Their commitment to the life of the children is impressive and humbling.
The giveaturn.org team will regroup soon to work on its next action on the field. Stay tuned for our next adventure.
